On Friday, her last day in office, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard announced she would release "never-before-seen" communications and documents "exposing" Dr. Anthony Fauci's multi-million dollar funding of dangerous gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology using American taxpayer dollars.

Dr. Fauci served as Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) during the COVID-19 pandemic.

China has claimed the virus jumped from animals to humans at a food market near the institute, which also conducted so-called 'gain-of-function' research, generally considered to involve manipulating viruses to gain insight into how they might mutate and act.

U.S. intelligence agencies appear divided on how the deadly virus spread globally. The FBI and the Department of Energy have assessed with low to moderate confidence that an accidental lab leak is the most probable cause. The CIA has concluded with low confidence that the virus is more likely to have a research-related origin than a natural one.

"Today, on my last day as Director of National Intelligence, I am releasing previously undisclosed documents and materials that expose Dr. Fauci's multi-million dollar funding of dangerous genetic engineering research at the Wuhan Institute, his collusion with political operatives within the intelligence community to cover up his actions and the lab leak origin of the virus, and his testimony under oath in 2024 falsely denying these facts. The time is now for you to know the truth," Gabbard stated in an X post on Thursday.

According to a press release from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence dated the 18th, Dr. Fauci funded millions of American taxpayer dollars for dangerous gain-of-function research on bat coronaviruses at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. This research is now widely considered the source of an accidental lab leak that triggered the current pandemic.

"The ODNI is releasing previously undisclosed documents and materials that expose the process through which Anthony Fauci conspired with politicized senior leaders within the Intelligence Community (IC) to cover up his actions, the lab leak origin of the virus, and his role in directing U.S. funding for dangerous research that has led to immeasurable damage and countless lives lost," the ODNI stated, making the related materials available on its website.

These materials are noteworthy as they directly contradict Fauci's testimony before the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic in 2024.

During that hearing, when repeatedly asked "whether he had discussed the virus research with the FBI, CIA, DIA, or any other U.S. intelligence agencies before, during, or after the pandemic," Fauci repeatedly evaded the questions, ultimately providing a false answer that he "didn't know" about COVID-19, according to Gabbard.

Furthermore, numerous whistleblowers have testified that intelligence analysts who challenged Fauci's COVID-19 origin narrative often faced threats of retaliation, alienation, and career setbacks.

"This fostered a culture where dissent was suppressed, conformity was prioritized over truth, and credible evidence was buried," the ODNI pointed out.
