On Monday the 29th, the Supreme Court upheld a lower court's ruling that blocked President Donald Trump's attempt to remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. President Trump stated that he would continue his legal efforts to remove her following this decision.

President Trump had attempted to fire Governor Cook last year, alleging that she had provided false information on a mortgage application. Cook challenged the termination and successfully obtained a stay of her dismissal from a lower court.

President Trump requested that the appellate court overturn the lower court's decision, but in September of last year, the appellate court also maintained the stay of execution.

The Supreme Court's decision on this day was reached with a 5-4 vote, with Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, and Amy Coney Barrett dissenting. The majority opinion was delivered by Chief Justice John Roberts himself.

On the morning of the 29th, President Trump wrote on Truth Social, "The case regarding Cook’s position on the Federal Reserve Board of Governors has been remanded to the lower court by the Supreme Court on procedural grounds. We will take appropriate action immediately to ensure that someone who has engaged in misconduct cannot make important decisions regarding the welfare of the United States!"

As reported by Breitbart News, while Monday’s ruling did not reach a final judgment on whether President Trump’s reasons for attempting to remove Cook meet the "for cause" standard required by the courts, it clarified that the matter remains subject to further judicial review.

Breitbart News reported that if the Trump administration continues to pursue Cook's removal, lower courts may need to determine whether the allegations of mortgage fraud satisfy the necessary requirements.
